Work you'll do

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART). They are responsible to facilitate the ART events and processes and assist the teams in delivering value. RTEs communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement.
  • Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART, using various tools such as the Program Kanban and other information radiators. Improve the flow of value through Value Streams by improving and assessing the practices associated with DevOps and Release on Demand in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline.
  • Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs).
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs. Facilitate the PI planning event. Facilitate feature and capability estimation by teams, and the roll-up to Epics where necessary. Facilitate periodic synchronization events, including the ART sync at the Essential Level and the Solution Train sync for Solution trains. Facilitate System Demos and Solution Demos.
  • Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities.
  • Help manage risks and dependencies; escalate and track impediments; provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks.
  • Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment. Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering. Help drive best lean agile practices and maturity of the ART
  • Understand and operate within Lean Budgets and ensure adherence to Guardrails.
  • Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and Solution Train and help them improve.
  • Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or equivalent educational or professional experience and/or qualifications. An advanced degree is an asset.
  • Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets.
  • Technical experience in Cloud and application development is a plus.
  • Robust project management and team management skills.
  • Able to think outside the box; uses knowledge gained through prior experience, education, and training to resolve issues and remove project barriers.
  • Drive for results - maintain constant awareness of projects and clients; keeps product owners focused on short- and long-term milestones.
  • Impecable leadership and management skills
  • Expert in Azure DevOps tool. Able to setup new ART/Teams structure templates, queries, dashboards etc.
  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) or other Scaled Agile certifications a plus.
  • Proven expertise in managing the delivery of mid-to-large web/enterprise applications needed.
  • Able to understand and relate to the business objectives and provide a high-quality automated solution.
  • Able to adjust communications to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience interfacing with external software design and development vendors preferred.
  • Experience managing both internal teams and offshore vendor teams project delivery, plans, and ensure proper staffing.
  • Ability to travel minimally required, up to 10%.
